View Full Version : Stern only had 500 radios to giveaway!
Truth

He mentioned something like he had 20,000 to give away this morning on
his show, and a news report mentions this:
A fan of radio host Howard Stern yells as he stands among thousands
gathered in New York's Union Square where 500 Sirius satellite radios
were given out.
Thousands showed up, and only 500 of them got what they came for.
What a great promotional stunt! Piss off thousands of your fans after
you tell them to come and get free radios, then don't have enough, after
on your show you mentioned you had so many you probably wouldn't be able
to give them all away.
Of the thousands who showed up and didn't get a radio, how many of them
are now going to want to go out and buy a Sirius radio after this scam?
Better than AM, better than Sirius, XM.

Tell the entire story dude!
The exact excerpt from the AP newswire is "Stern personally handed out
a free Sirius boom box to the first 500 fans, while another 20,000 were
given redeemable certificates for free radios."
So in truth he did LIE, he gave away 20,500 instead of just 20,000.
Don't spread your crap, just enjoy your XM and move along. Your
reporting is the only real scam here today.

What $100 mil a year to Stern, damn, that's why we have to pay 12.00 for
their service. Shit that will require almost 1 million listeners just to pay
for Stern ,Damn.
I hope they go bust.

I wouldn't be suprised if at least 1 million came just because of Stern.
I'm quite confident that the amount of subscribers he will bring in will
more than make up for the amount Sirius will be paying him. Only time will
tell, though. I think they'll have to preempt some channels at XM to make
room for all the baseball games. I hope baseball can attract enough
subscribers to make up for the $650 mil and not piss any of the existing
subscribers with their stations being preempted for baseball games. I
believe a couple seasons ago, Sirius did have baseball for a while and
preempting channels is exactly what they had to do to cover all the
simultaneous games. However, my memory is known to be fleeting, I could be
wrong.

Sirius is $12.95/mo for both the Sirius car AND Siruis PC streaming
services.
XM is $9.99/mo for the car service PLUS AN ADDITIONAL $3.99/mo for the
PC streaming service. = $13.98/mo
So the XM service is really more per month and the music selection is
better WITH SIRIUS. XM's comedy is better though.
So saving the $150 up front on the Sirius hardware is a good promo
deal. AND screw those bastards selling FREE information on ebay!

I wouldn't either a year from now, but I would be surprised if that many signed
up to hear Stern now when Stern is not scheduled to be on Sirius for another
year yet.
If they are coming just because of Stern, then no point for them to sign up too
early and pay for the year before he is on.

They promised not to, and I have a copy that I will send to them when they go
back on their word.

I may stop my subscription and ask for a refund on the day they plaster
baseball all over XM.
Just canceling is one thing, but if they have to start refunding people money,
then they may think twice about all this sports shit the both of these
companies keep shoving into our faces.
If we want sports, we can get that on AM, FM, TV, ESPN, etc.

Why pay for even WORSE sounding audio of the web streaming when I already have an XM
receiver?
So, XM is only $10 and Sirius is $3 more.
Here is how you do it....
Listen to your existing XM receiver while on the computer, and then you don't need to
slow down your computer while on the internet by paying and extra $4 to slow your
computer down.

So, it really isn't!
Because with Sirius, you could buy TWO radios and then compare that to someone with XM
and streaming and then XM is cheaper.

It sure is!

I decided on XM because I could get my units quite reasonably. I now have
several docking units: a couple of inside bases, a portable boombox, and a
docking unit in each vehicle. I could have gotten the Sirius setups as well
if I wanted to wait on them. However, I prefer being able to get the
aftermarket hardware from a known quality audio manufacturer. Sirius was
originally ahead, but they didn't choose to work closely with a capable
aftermarket audio manufacturer. There's a reason that XM was able to move
as quickly as they did.
I'll probably pop for a MyFi as soon as I can pick one up less than retail.
I'd like something even a bit more portable than the SkyFi boombox for
extra-vehicular travel. Sometime in the future, I would hope that the new
receivers will be able to pick up either SR service. If you buy GM or some
of the other OEM XM vehicles, you only can get XM in their OEM radios. Of
course, if you choose Ford or DCX, your OEM radio must be Sirius. Many of
these OEM radios, XM-ready and Sirius-ready, are made by the same
manufacturer.
How long will it be until we can buy a new car with an AM-FM-CD/DVD
Satellite Wireless unit that the owner can choose activate with XM and/or
Sirius? It makes sense to me. Otherwise, there really isn't competition for
the service after the sale. - m

LOL
Howard Stern is the next John Kerry.
Who?
Right.

It will take 1.7 mln to 2.0 mln (remember, every Stern listener also
has to cover the cost of other programming as well, which is about 1/3
of revenue). Some people say they'll get it; I just don't know.
That's a lot of people to have give up free radio and switch over one
day. It is going to be interesting to see what happens, though.

No, there shouldn't be a problem here. Very low bandwidth and they
will have the NCAA football channels for use for the most part.

They didn't carry significant numbers of games. I don't recall any
major pre-emption going on there.

This morning Imus announced he's bought 20,000 shares of Sirius on
Friday and was looking to buy as much as he could.
He seems to have faith in Karmazin, saying he has a license to print
money.

True.

The Roady2 is perfect for any project. You can run it on battery power (it
only needs 6 volts) and turn off the backlight to save power when using
batteries. You can make a walkman radio out of it. You can interface it
with any other radio or sound system because it has direct audio out and an FM
radio transmitter built in.
You can run every radio in the house off of it, you can fit it in your pocket
and make a battery pack that is even smaller.

So does everyone hope this. But big companies and government rarely care
about what people want, they make up their own minds.

I would rather have a Chevy over a Ford.

Ah, but they don't make decisions based on "sense" only what some stupid
college degree marketing major decides.
