My wife likes Yanni (yuck), Steve Halpern, (double yuck) and other New Age
artists. The CD aisles in stores are filled with rows of New Age artists.
Sirius has free sample time and we couldn't find any New Age. XM is cheepo
and you can't sample their stuff. Does anyone know what I'm talking about
and if so recommend a station?

Thanks, William

That does seem to be a hole in Sirius' lineup. For XM, try Audio
Visions, XM77. You can get a 3 day free trial of XM on-line.

Back in the old days, late 80's, a local FM station here in the
Twin Cities ran a show called "Soundscapes", which was part new
age, part music as scenery. I really liked it, but the station
stopped carrying it in the early 90's. Anyone ever hear of this,
or know if they are still producing this show?

This same station would carry the Greatful Dead hour on Sunday
nights. It was a great way to get into the dead.

On Sirius, channel 99 Horizons and channel 71 Jazz Cafe both play Yanni and
Steven Halpern. Unfortunately Sirius doesn't have a 24/7 New Age channel
anymore, but there's a New Age show called Soundscapes which comes on
Sundays:

SOUNDSCAPES
Sundays (12 am - 12 am ET):

Starting 8/29, relax with best in new age sounds. Soundscapes features
music from artists like John Tesh, Yanni, Jim Brickman and Enya.

If your free trial runs out before Sunday, just sign up for a yahoo or
hotmail address and you can sign up again. If you use the link on Howard
Stern's page you can get a week trial instead of a 3 day trial.

XM does have a free online streaming trial (3 day) at:
http://www.xmradio.com/xstream/ Try listening to Audiovisions channel 77,
or maybe Fine Tuning channel 76. Both of these channels play Yanni and
Steven Halpern.

Yes, XM has a New Age channel called: WATERCOLORS. That is real true New
Age, but occasionally you get Yanni and new age on the FINE TUNING and AUDIO
VISIONS channel too. Your wife will love those channels.

Next time you are at a Best Buy or some store than demos XM radios, tune in
those three channels for your wife. The WATERCOLORS is the one you are
really looking for, but she may like the other two as well.

Are you sure it wasn't "Musical Starstreams"? We had that on a station here
in the 80's and I believe that show is also on Audio Visions.

Interesting how XM lists this as a "Jazz" channel and groups it
in the "Jazz & Blues" area. It is also funny how the music is
jazz, including artists like guitar wizard George Benson.

All the FM stations do this too. They call it "smooth jazz" on the FM, but in
reality, the format is a mix of new age and phil collins, not any jazz at all.
But since FM radio changed the name of rap to "hip hop" and new age to
"contemporary jazz", XM figured it would keep the "contemporary jazz" label.
Many people that were not around in the 80s, don't even know what "New Age" means.

Or as on the FM stations, so is Phil Collins.
