Then again, their receivers are still in the stone age.

It is ,essentially, a large MP3 player. It is only portable in the
sense that you can carry it from place to place or play RECORDED XM
Content. The product advertising implies that this is a walkman-like XM
radio. It is not, there is no facility to walk anywhere while this
thing is playing live. Where is the antenna? They don't show you that.
Folks, before you go out and plunk down $350 for this, consider getting
a top of the line ipod and just grabbing stuff from your home satellite
radio.

You are 100% wrong. The Myfi comes with 3 antennas. One for the car kit,
one for the home dock, and a portable personal clip-on antenna. I also
believe, but I'm not positive it has a built-in miniature antenna. The
MyFi is the ultimate, all you'll ever need receiver. It is rechargable
for portable use. The only thing you can't do is record things when it's
not in a dock.

No, there is no built-in miniature antenna. Therefore it needs a
regular antenna. Pretty clunky now. no built-in miniature antenna = not
a walkman type radio. It is what I said, a glorified MP3 player that
can only ply XM content

Then why is XM lying? Go to their website, and click on the MyFi. It
clearly states, and I quote: "First-ever built-in XM antenna." Why
should I believe you and not XM? Where are you getting your info?

The built in antenna is for areas with repeaters. It is not a satellite
antenna. There is a "integrated" antenna that 'clips on to you hat'.
Don't know how that works in practice though.

The built in antenna is mainly for terrestrial repeaters, but can pick
up the satellites under the right conditions. Outdoors, facing the
right direction, etc. The clip on antenna is not "integrated". It is a
small, slim, removable external antenna that you can clip anywhere on
your body.

100% False. It comes with a built in antenna, and a mini-portable
external antenna that clips to an article of clothing if needed.

Yes it does, but not a whole lot of good it's going to do you unless you
plan on jogging near somewhere with a repeater. I don't know if I'd like to
put a portable personal clip on antenna on my head, either. I'm sure I've
looked stranger going to ham fests with some ham gear on.

It cannot record things while in a car dock either, to the best of my
knowledge.

Exactly, you "don't know" so do us a favor and let someone who does know
provide facts.

I saw this posted on a message board in regards to the internal
antenna. I wouldn't take it as fact yet, but it would be nice if it is
true:
"the antenna is a completely different antenna design than what we
have seen in the past, it's able to receive a weaker signal than a lot
of the current antennas."

If this is true, I hope they incorporate this new technology into some next
gen car and home antennas, although I'm not sure how sensitive of an antenna
it would take to receive a satellite signal through a human body ;-) We
shall see.... I'm not going to be an early adopter on this one. It's too
much money to risk it.

WTF are you talking about?

Why? The size is right. Battery life is a little short (5 hrs). But
still, adequate.

It is internal.

LMAO. If they can make them, they'll sell hundreds of thousands
before XMAS.

Well this makes my choice easy..XM is a scam product and the sales
people either lie or dont know what they are selling..Kinda like going
to best buy...

The people I know who have them are reporting excellent reception with
just the internal antenna. In one case, within a building. I have
seen one report of poor reception, but its source was questionnable.

I put that to the excellent satellite system XM has in place. It will be
interesting to see if Sirius has just as good luck with a portable system and
reception as well having a different satellite system in place.

Hopefully that answer will be known to us all soon.

I hope that problems with them being able to have good reception with a portable
MyFi type unit is not what has kept them from coming out with one this year.

We shall see.

The in-building reception is generally possible due to the 1000+ terrestrial
repeaters used to fill in in areas of obstruction and in high density urban
areas.

Exactly. The reason XM has so many repeaters is because of the
inferior satellite system that they have in place. If their satellites
where in orbit up above North America like the Sirius satellites are
instead of in a stationary orbit way down south off the coast of South
America, they wouldn't need so many repeaters.
