Well, here is just an example of what type of idiots are in charge of
adding newsgroups.
After several calls, I have been unsuccessful in having my news server
add alt.radio.satellite. However, they just added
alt.radio.satellite.gz
I found that I can post to alt.radio.satellite, but can not read posts
on alt.radio.satellite.
I wonder how many other people get alt.radio.satellite.gz that do not
get it without the gz? If this is a big problem for many, then one
solution would be to cross post every message to both until how ever
many months it takes for newsgroups servers to add the correct group to
their system.
I find it hilarious that they have no problems getting the .gz group
added very quickly, without any requests for it, but the one people
request, they refuse to add.
How typical.

Now this is really weird. I don't have alt.radio.satellite.gz on my server
but I do have alt.radio.satellite AND I'm getting your message! This
shouldn't be the case unless your server has alt.radio.satellite on it.
Have you tried resetting your group list recently? If you are using Outlook
Express, press CTRL-W and then click RESET LIST. Hopefully this will work
for you. Also, Google Groups has added alt.radio.satellite so maybe that
will work for you in the mean time. Sorry you're having so much trouble!

Do NOT post or x-post with the gz newsgroup. If it receives traffic it
becomes a *real* newsgroup and can not be removed.
Contact the newsadmin pointing out the error. He/she should correct
it.

Because I have to cross post to both, until I am able to read from the group,
without doing so, I would not have been able to read your response from
alt.radio.satellite.gz

Of course. They refuse to add it because of, get this now, they do not add
groups that are too new or don't have enough traffic!
Yet they added alt.radio.satellite.gz
Here, read their response for yourself.....
---------------------------------------------
We are sorry you have not found a specific newsgroup of interest. We try
to provide our subscribers the most files per newsgroup and the best
availability of material. For instance, we like to carry newsgroups that
store material for more than one day. However, we do have to be
conscious of storage space. Therefore, we will not include a newsgroup
until it has generated a high enough level of interest among visitors.
The newsgroup you are looking for may be too new for us to carry or may
not have enough traffic to justify the space. You may post to
comcast.newsgroup.request in order to request a new newsgroup to be
added.
--------------------------------------------
Here is the other funny part, there is no such group as
comcast.newsgroup.request on their server!
My ISP news server (Mediacom) put the "gz" at the end too. I can't find out
how to request that they add the correct group. Mediacom shares news
servers with other ISPs (I think it's the same servers that AT&T @Home used
to have) and no one seems to know how to make a newsgroup request.

It's probably becourse they peer with the server that added the wrong
newsgroup. That's how Usenet works. Ignore the gz newsgroup and let it
die.
