We can understand why you radio executives need to say things like this, your
industry is threatened by competition now, no longer are you in control of a
monopoly.
I can listen to JAZZ 24/7 anytime I want, without commercial interruption.
I can listen to XM COMEDY and hear UNCENSORED comedy without BLEEPS all day
long. Where can I get that on regular radio? Clear Channel doesn't even
provide the citizens with a comedy format at all.
The best part is, if I want to listen to MUSIC in the morning, I can now!
And WITHOUT all that TRAFFIC, WEATHER, NEWS and commercials or morning zoo team
interrupting the station's music format!
As to your very last statement, they have the Discovery Channel and C-Span
channels too.

The format does not exist on terrestrial radio because it does not work. It
has been tried on multiple occasions, and got, basically, no listeners. XM
and Sirius are fine for this, as they have a totally different model and do
not need to have individual channel listeners to make money. Commercial
radio does.

Wrong, quiz kid. I am not a radio executive.

With no creativity and local diversity either. yawn.

Gee that says tons about your intellectual level. Charlie Chaplin, Laurel &
Hardy, The Three Stooges and more were true comedians who made millions
laugh without constant references to cocks, teats and shit.
You must be having your first orgasm upon learning that Howie Stern is
finally vacating commercial radio for satellite. At least the airwaves will
be a bit cleaner.

Actually we do agree on the issue of clutter found on commercial radio
although I miss having some local news from a local radio news department
instead of CNN's bullshit headline news. Re commercial clutter; that's the
fault of the broadcasters and their big wet dream of deregulation. Now 20
hits are followed by 20 minutes of bullshit commercials.

What satellite doesn't have is local color, diversity and creativity.
Whoever thinks that radio is supposed to be a fucking jukebox is part of
the problem and not a solution.

You hit the nail on the head with that part of your comment!

Oh, I love them too, but are you suggesting that what these fellows do in
intelligent? I don't get how listening to comedy has anything to do with
one's intellectual level.
The above mentioned are the only ones on television that can make me laugh, no
current day sitcom can make me laugh. Except for perhaps everyone loves
raymond, and again it is more the VISUAL comedy than the dialog, just like with
the above artists.
But "comedians" that just speak into a microphone and don't perform the way the
above classic artists do, of TODAY, just can NOT make me laugh today, it is all
boring and lame. Something about the added language at least makes it a bit
funnier and more of an adult level rather than small children humor. Think
of it this way... What the three stooges do is idiotic and stupid, thus
extremely funny. When comedians are playing the part of a foul mouthed
story teller, that sounds just as idiotic and stupid and thus funny.
Even the classic Redd Foxx used a bit of adult language to his stand up
humor. In sanford and son he doesn't need it because he used the VISUAL
medium. For stand up being recorded for audio only, without the adult
language, it just is not funny.
What is funny about Jay Leno?
> who made millions

No one can argue they were the kings of comedy and had the TALENT to be able to
be funny without that stuff which is HARD to do.
Never would I compare anyone on XM COMEDY as being better than those you
mentioned. But from what we are stuck with today, the only stuff that makes
me laugh in on XM COMEDY, nothing on radio can make me laugh because they have
restrictions and have to constantly be afraid of what they will get in trouble
for saying.
Hell, even some things the three stooges and L&H did were considered out of
line and too much back then. Elvis shaking his hips was censored from
television.
People 50 years from now will consider Andrew Dice Clay the classic safe for
children comedian while the crap in the future will then be fighting with the
standards of that time.

I would if he was going to XM. I am not going to get Sirius just for his
show, so I will miss it.
How sad that the government decided for me what I can listen to and now I will
no longer be able to listen to it. I hope that Sirius goes out of business
before the 15 months and Howard goes to XM instead.
> At least the airwaves will
> be a bit cleaner.
Yeah, and full of the propaganda political bullshit that is all over it now, or
the rap "music" or all the Mexican language programming. The only thing I
can listen to on the radio IS Howard Stern. Then I switch to XM the rest of
the day.

See, now I can not stand local news. I only care about the big world events,
I don't care about the local fire downtown, or car accident.
> instead of CNN's bullshit headline news.
yeah, Sirius only has CNN headline news, XM has regular CNN too.

No 20 hits would take over an hour to play. You are lucky to get 3 songs in a
row, then 10 minutes or more of spots.

When people want to hear music, they don't want to hear some jerk talking,
especially when they never tell you anything important like the name or artist
of the song anyway. I just want to hear the music and no talking. And
with XM, you just need to look at the display to see the name and artist of the
song, so problem solved at last.
XM for some reason, seems to think they need to add DJs to some of the music
channels, and get this... They will tell you the names and artists of the
songs played. WHY? I can just look on the display to know that? Here
where the DJ does NOT need to give that info, they do it! On regular radio
where they NEEDED to do that the past 2 decades, they did not.
